Going on Ahead

It is clear that Jesus has moved into our neighborhoods as the comment on yesterday's post illustrates. Amazing! The question is: Do we understand that we are among the "72" who are sent by Jesus today to "go on ahead" (Luke 10:1), and will we actually go on ahead?

As our friend who commented yesterday helped us see: our going on ahead is not a going to a brand new place, necessarily. It is a being aware and open as we go on ahead to the places where we live and move and have our being.

Lord, open our eyes and let us see. Open our hearts and let us engage. Open our lives and let us share.

It does take courage though...especially w/existing relationships. It's easy to share the gospel, tell people what we believe...much more difficult to live it and share the truth. The toughest thing is/at least for me, I can tend to worry about being a Jesus freak. Loving people, removing barriors, throwing your heart out there is odd. It's a cynical world, it's also painful when rejection comes along. Many times it does because people don't trust that you truley care. They tend to test your sincerity, as we probablly should all do in some ways. I've learned God's word never comes back empty though, especially when spoken in love. That's why we need to be generous in sharing it, because even when WE think we've failed He is using us.

Had a friend/ex-wife of a co-worker. Shared the Lord about 5 years ago. I was disappointed, really cared, made an investment, took alot of heat from others because of it(this co-worker is a christian going through a divorce my loyalty as a believer was being doubted, his ex-wife's sin was considered unforgiveable, as a new christian even my knowledge/experience was doubtful, I wasn't considered seasoned enough, I refused to believe any of this), she stopped calling though wouldn't recieve my calls. Last month she did finally call. She wanted to take her own life. Ready to jump out of her skin she asked God for one friend that would help lead her back to Him. Deciding to keep herself busy she began a crossword puzzle. The first word was one cent....God used this puzzle to remind her of me...Penney...she called me in that moment...we laughed and cried over our Lord's love and humour. I never stopped believing, or thinking about her. Weirdest thing, she's teaching me more than I could possibly teach her about grace. Eternity begins today, so it's really important to trust that He know's His own and does it in His time using whatever means He chooses.
